The Large Dogs

I first made a life size dog in the winter of 1979. It had a sandy watery green color, and a wavelike texture. I set it out by the pond near the studio during the spring critique.

A professor who felt that the Bay Area Funk ceramic movement had nothing to offer the art world criticized the piece as not appearing to be anything close to what I said I was trying to do, which was create a Water Dog. Just then, a pair of mallards landed directly in front of it, walked up to it and stared at its face....
